Croatia
Whilst crossing from Austria into Slovenia felt like practically nothing, crossing the border into Croatia was a whole different story! Although still within the EU - so no passport controls, hooray! 🙌 - everything shifted immediately: suddenly the motorways got proper bumpy, and there was rubbish scattered everywhere, especially in beautiful nature places... 🗑️🚯
On the bright side, the music here is so much more to my liking! ❤️🎶
I was super lucky to find a gorgeous little spot by a lake near the airport. I squeezed in a lovely evening swim and another quick morning dip before jetting off to London for a whirlwind three-day break with a gig and lessons. (And I smuggled some Scottish oatcakes back in my luggage because I’d missed them like crazy!) 🏴🌾
It was only afterwards that I realised wild camping is completely illegal here too... phew, I was very lucky not to get fined! 🏊♀️🚐
For this leg of my Eurasian Roam, Croatia was really just a bridge to Montenegro - a brand-new place I’d never visited before. Almost every night, I managed to scout out a delightful secret parking spot right on the coast, enjoying sea swims, breath-taking sunsets, and thankfully zero fines! 🌅🌊

Now, the one time I actually decided to play by the rules and stay at a proper campsite, the driveway was so ridiculously steep that I couldn't get back out! Oh my goodness! 🙈 Turning down into it had already given me a mini heart attack, so I sent a quick prayer up to the universe to somehow get me out of that trap. 🚨🙏✨
Well, my prayer was answered - not by me suddenly turning into a master stunt driver, but by an amazing Croatian gentleman! 🦸♂️ Even though he’d probably never sat behind the wheel of a right-hand drive vehicle in his life, he bravely and expertly navigated my mighty Ludwig VAN back up the slope. What an absolute hero, phew! 🚐💨💪
