A few days ago, on the 27th of January, the world observed Holocaust Memorial Day. With this video, we would like to raise awareness for the Romani involvement in this tragic history — a narrative that is often left in the shadows.
This arrangement of "Djelem Djelem," the official Romani Anthem, was originally commissioned to commemorate the lives lost and the stories silenced during the Holocaust. While the history of the Jewish people is widely recognized, it is a vital historical fact to remember that the Romani people were equally targeted and devastated by these events.
The title translates to "I Walked Long Roads," symbolizing the arduous journey and resilience of a people. We share this today to honor the shared heritage of all those affected and to ensure that the Romani experience is remembered with dignity and truth.
May we continue to walk towards a future of peace, recognition, and collective understanding!
