Performance and Workshop Proposal
for the
Celebration and Promotion of Gundula’s new book
due to be published in January 2025:
BALKAN MUSIC FROM DANUBE REGIONS
WITH DROPS OF OTTOMAN
Inspired by the sunken island Ada Kaleh near Orșova, Romania, and the Ottoman influences on Eastern European and Balkan music, this collection features 30 instrumental pieces from Hungary to the Black Sea. It includes sheet music with chords for 1-3 voices, audio recordings, and writings that provide historical and social context, along with some local anecdotes. Pictures and images enhance the visual experience of the music.
Concert Proposal:
The Magic Violin String Trio performs a selection of pieces from the new book, in exclusive musical arrangements crafted by Gundula for violin/vocals, cello and guitar. The performance can be an evening event with two sets of 45 minutes each, or a matinee lasting 60 minutes. Gundula will introduce each piece with a brief history and background, sharing her highly entertaining and much-loved stories from her fieldwork trips.
The music will feature seasonal and ritualistic pieces, ranging from haunting melodies to wild folk dances, resulting in a showcase of art, history, virtuosic skills, and great fun.
Lecture Recital:
An academic lecture featuring live music performances that examines the history, background, and musical features of each piece, as well as the broader context of the music itself. This event can be presented by the Magic Violin Trio, or alternatively, with a duo line-up of violin/vocals and guitar.
Before performing each piece, Gundula explores modes, motives, rhythms, and other distinctive musical characteristics. A 90-minute lecture is ideal for university music departments, adult education colleges, and specialized music schools. A 60-minute talk featuring music extracts as a pre-concert event will enhance performances at art centres and concert series.

Workshop/Master Class:
This can be facilitated as a 90-minute session or as a half- or full-day workshop. For more in-depth study and residential institutions, a weekend workshop or weekly course can also be offered. Pieces from the book will be studied alongside techniques, ornamentation, and other stylistic features. Sessions can be offered exclusively for violin or for a mixture of instruments. It can also be conducted as an ensemble workshop for a combination of melodic, harmonic, and percussion instruments. Watch samples from past ensemble workshop performances:
